The Saints and NFL overtime rules....

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SAINTS AND THEIR VERY FIRST NFC CHAMPIONSHIP!  I couldn't be happier with the Superbowl teams, this should shake out to be a great one!  HOWEVER!  I hate the NFL's overtime rules..   They are ridiculous!  There is no way you can convince me that is ok to declare a winner when the other team doesn't even have a chance to come back.  The Vikings, as in many NFL overtime games, never got to touch the ball in overtime.  How fair is that?  In the NBA, each team get's a chance to win in overtime.  In the MLB, each team gets an extra inning to try to win a game.  But in the NFL, what is supposed to be America's greatest game, each team is not treated equally.  If you win the coin toss, more times than not, you win.  Here's the way I see it, if the first team scores, the opposing team should get at least one shot at trying.  If the first team does not score and the opposing team receives the ball and, in return, scores... game over.  For example.. New Orleans scores last night, Minnesota should have the opportunity to play to win or tie.  If New Orleans had not scored, and Minnesota received the ball and scored (both teams having a possession and a chance to win) then Minnesota wins the game.  Each team should get an equal shot at trying to win in overtime.  Let's look at a rule change NFL.... you're way behind.

American Idol, Boston....

Ok, so what I saw tonight... decent talent.  Nothing to write home about.  I was not blown away by anyone.  What I did enjoy was Simon's gay moment with Justin Williams(the guy who beat cancer).  Did anyone else notice this?  Yes, Justin was very good, but Simon thought he was the cat's meow.  I mean, Simon looked completely smitten with this Justin character, he giggled like a school girl!  And that's fine, Simon.. to each his own.  Anyway, this is the first of many American Idol recaps that I will be doing.  American Idol has officially begun.

P.S. here's a link to a video of Simon's special moment with Justin, if you missed it.  Check it out at 1:30...

The National Championship as I saw it....

Through the encouragement of my sister-in-law,
I decided to create a blog. And what better place to
start than the BCS National Championship game!
As most of you that know me know, I am, have always been, and will always be a die hard University of Alabama Crimson Tide fan. I couldn't have been happier with the outcome of the championship game. We're number 1 once again. But, here's the championship game as I saw it. Alabama's running game was excellent, their defense was better, the coaching staff forgot how to coach, and Texas wasn't the same without McCoy. If you tell me that having Colt McCoy on the sideline made a difference in how the game was played, I'll completely agree with you. If you tell me that Alabama's defense wouldn't have been able to handle Colt McCoy, well, I think they did! Marcell Dareus laid the hit on McCoy that took him out of the game, to which I hope Dareus followed with a "WELCOME TO THE SEC, BITCH!" Ok, ok, that might've been out of line, and I wish nothing but the best for Colt, but the game is a team effort and Texas seemed to lose their spirit after he left. If nothing else, I would've expected Colt's injury to light a fire in Texas to crush Alabama. And don't tell me "oh, well Texas had their 2nd string QB in". That little ol' 2nd string QB passed for 185 yards and 2 TD's to our STARTING QB's 58 yards and 0 TD's. I was impressed, he was as poised as he could've been in that situation. As far as Texas' defense went, they knew Alabama's strength, the run game, and couldn't stop it(which should shut up the nay sayers about who didn't deserve the Heisman). I am not saying Texas is terrible, Alabama certainly wasn't fantastic... I mean, really Saban? A fake punt on 4th and 23 on your own 30? I couldn't believe it. But the end result crowns Alabama National Champs, and that makes me happy. I can rest easier now knowing the football God's and Bear Bryant, himself, are smiling down on Tuscaloosa, once again. And that's just how I saw it. But I had a few beers, so what do I know?
